BREAK-FAST JAM 2024: Uganda’s Biggest Hip-Hop and Breakdance Festival Returns.

After a hiatus, the much-anticipated BREAK-FAST JAM is returning to Kampala, reigniting the spirit of Uganda’s vibrant hip-hop and breakdance scene. This annual festival, set to run from November 25th to December 1st, 2024, promises a week-long celebration packed with skill, passion, and unity, bringing together dancers, artists, and fans from all walks of life for an immersive experience in Uganda’s breakdancing and hip-hop culture. This year, the festival will kick off with five days of academy sessions held at various locations across Kampala and Wakiso districts, culminating in an electrifying two-day festival at YMCA Wandegeya on November 30th and December 1st.

BREAK-FAST JAM has always been more than just a festival; it’s a movement built on fostering creativity, bridging cultural divides, and empowering young people through the universal language of dance. The festival creates a safe, inclusive space for dancers of all backgrounds to come together, learn from each other, and celebrate hip-hop culture as a powerful, unifying force. Designed to reach children, teenagers, and youth from both urban and rural areas, BREAK-FAST JAM brings participants together, building a platform for sharing and inspiring one another. With a strong focus on supporting girls and women in hip-hop, this year’s festival aims to increase female representation in dance while offering opportunities for youth to learn about financial sustainability, develop their skills, and connect with like-minded artists.

This year’s lineup includes workshops led by industry experts, masterclasses that dive deep into technique and style, and thrilling dance battles where local and international talent will showcase their skills. Visual arts will take center stage as well, with graffiti art displays, vibrant markets, and exhibitions that highlight the colorful diversity of hip-hop culture. The festival’s commitment to community outreach shines through its school and ghetto outreach programs, which take dance and mentorship directly to youth in underserved communities, giving them the chance to experience and be part of Uganda’s thriving hip-hop community.
