Baru & Kaboo: A Collaborative Force in the Music Industry.
In January of this year, we had the pleasure of attending Baru’s “Chwez Funk” listening session where he surprised us with the news of a forthcoming collaborative project with Kaboo. Fast forward to April, and the duo extended an invitation to us for a listening session of “Longitude 20.” The evening was filled with captivating stories of how the project came to life, told through the lenses of the collaborators and featured artists such as APass, Akeine, Nativ, Likkle Bangii, Taidai, Josh Moziah, Greis, J4J, Mario Batkovic, Edrine K, Baze & Joshua Baraka.
When two music producers from different parts of the world come together, the result can be nothing short of magic. This is exactly what happened when Baru and Kaboo, two music producers from Uganda and Switzerland, respectively, joined forces to create their collaborative project “Longitude 20.”
Baru, a three-time award-winning producer and audio engineer from Uganda, has made a name for himself in the music industry with his unique sound and experimental approach to music production. Kaboo, on the other hand, is a producer and live/studio mixer and mastering engineer from Bern, Switzerland. Despite their different backgrounds, the two share a passion for music production and a desire to create something new and exciting.
The idea for the collaborative project was born when Kaboo was working on his second single in Uganda and met Baru. Their shared love for demanding and experimental production quickly led to a friendship, and before they knew it, they were creating music together. They started with the idea for a single but soon found themselves expanding their vision into a full-length album featuring collaborations with many music artists from Uganda and Switzerland.
The album, “Longitude 20,” is a masterpiece that blends different music styles and languages, creating a unique sound that is both experimental and refreshing. The producers were able to bring in well-known musicians as well as talented newcomers into the studio, resulting in a diverse and surprising producer album.
One of the standout tracks on the album is “Never Let Me Go,” a love song that features the smooth and danceable vocals of fast-rising star Likkle Bangi and chart-topper Joshua Baraka. The collaboration between Greis and Akeine in their song about secret WhatsApp messages is also a highlight, with witty lyrics and infectious beats.
What sets “Longitude 20” apart from other albums is the producers’ approach to music production. They based the album on self-recorded samples and produced beats, and carefully curated which artists would work on which beats. This is something that Kaboo highlighted at the listening session, every sound on the project was created from scratch. The result is a raw and authentic feel that showcases the talent and creativity of all the artists involved.
Aside from their collaborative project, both Baru and Kaboo have successful careers in music production. Baru has released three albums and several EPs, while Kaboo has worked as a live/studio mixer and mastering engineer and has scored films. Their collaboration on “Longitude 20” proves that they are a force to be reckoned with in the music industry and that their creative partnership is one that we can’t wait to see more of.
“Longitude 20” is an album that deserves recognition and praise for its unique sound and approach to music production. The collaboration between Baru and Kaboo, and the other artists involved in the album, showcases the power of collaboration and experimentation in the music industry. It’s a testament to the talent and creativity of artists from different parts of the world and the magic that can happen when they come together to create something new and exciting.
