REVIEW: Derrick ThaPriest – Resurrect.

As we celebrated the long Easter holiday, Derrick ThaPriest blessed us with the visuals for his song titled \”Resurrect\” – talk about perfect timing. Just as we celebrated Jesus\’ resurrection, Derrick ThaPriest shared his own story of transformation, inspired by 2 Corinthians 5:17: \”Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.\” The music video adds an extra layer to the song\’s message, providing a visual representation of the struggle to overcome earthly temptations and awaken to the highest version of oneself.
The video begins with Derrick ThaPriest being kidnapped, tied up, and \”assassinated\”. However, before his assassination, we\’re taken back six hours to see what led up to this moment. We see Derrick purchasing a rolex and being chased by kidnappers shortly after. Despite managing to evade them, they eventually catch up with him, leading to his ultimate demise. The story serves as a metaphor for the temptations we face in life and the challenges of staying true to ourselves in the face of adversity.
The lyrics of the song are powerful and inspirational, speaking to the idea of overcoming challenges and rising to the top. \”Let me catch my breath – been running too long, in the valley of the shadow of death, Watch me resurrect\” – these lines speak to the idea of taking a moment to pause, to catch our breath, and to rise again stronger than before. The song also touches on the topic of humility and the importance of staying true to oneself, no matter what others may say.
In the end, the video offers a message of hope and redemption. We see Derrick taking control, pulling the trigger that leads to his death. This moment represents the idea of killing off our old selves and being reborn as new creatures. The message of the song is clear: no matter how far we may stray, there is always the opportunity to resurrect and start anew.
Derrick ThaPriest\’s \”Resurrect\” is a powerful song that speaks to the journey of self-discovery, transformation, and renewal. The music video enhances the song\’s message by visually portraying the battle to resist earthly temptations and to rise to one\’s greatest potential. The lyrics are inspirational and speak to the importance of staying true to oneself, no matter what challenges may come our way. As we celebrate Easter and the resurrection of Jesus, this message is particularly poignant and resonant.
